What to bring

Traveling in SE Asia in the warm season we can reduce the weight of our baggage to less than 5 kilos. This year I carried more than 7 kilos, this was about 3 too many.

how to save weight:

apparel: clothes made of micro fiber are perfect for traveling. They are extremely light, you do not sweat wearing them and after washing they become dry overnight. So we need only two pieces each.

for the bicycle: because in Cambodia as well as in Vietnam cycling is still popular the next bicycle shop is never far away. Even if they are not used to modern western high tech bicycles they can fix almost anything. If you are unlucky enough to get stuck between two villages just wave down the next pickup, the driver will be happy to take you to the next bicycle shop for a few cents.

miscellaneous:  bring the "bare necessities". If you find out that you forgot something you can buy it. In rural Cambodia the choice may be limited, but in the tourist areas like Siem Reap, Battambang and Phnom Phen you will get everything you need.
